Ezra Taft Benson Society Action Alert! (May 2011)

Posted by Brian M May 13th, 2011

We want to thank everyone for participating in our last action project of distributing the book “Many Are Called But Few Are Chosen“. It was a great success with over 300 books being distributed, many specifically to Ward and Stake leaders. This helps out a lot to bring about understanding of these Gospel principles as more people learn and use their influence to teach these principles to others.

Though “Many Are Called But Few Are Chosen” is a quick read, many still do better with a more visual introduction to the principles of liberty. This brings us to our current action project…

We would like to get copies of Ezra Taft Benson’s classic talk, “Man, Freedom & Government” on DVD, to as many Ward and Stake leaders as possible, to help in their efforts to bring people to Christ by understanding the principles He has laid out through His servants. We suggest getting copies for your entire Elders Quorum, Relief Society, or High Priest Group leadership (depending on which one you are a member of), your Bishopric/Branch Presidency and your Stake Presidency to have maximum impact. You are also encouraged to purchase additional copies to share with others.

Ezra Taft Benson: Man, Freedom, Government DVD“Man, Freedom & Government” is a shortened and graphically updated version of the talk that Ezra Taft Benson gave at Brigham Young University, October 21, 1968, entitled, “The Proper Role of Government”.

As with our last project, we recommended that individuals give copies of this important work to their ward and stake leadership with a cover letter giving an explanation of the book and why they thought it was important to bring to their attention. This had a major impact!  The feedback ranged from reports of changing of individual behavior in support of the principles of liberty to an increase of teaching of the topic of liberty in ward and stake meetings.  In all cases, the book was received with gratitude and an increase of understanding and appreciation for these principles.

We encourage everyone to participate in this program.

To help accomplish this, we are offering this professionally produced DVD for only $5 each or only $3 each if you buy one for you & each of your Ward and Stake leadership.

  • $5 for 1 DVD ($5/each)
  • $30 for 10 DVDs ($3/each)
  • $75 for 30 DVDs ($2.50/each)
  • $100 for 50 DVDs ($2/each)

After you deliver your copies to your ward and stake leadership, we would love to hear back from you any experiences that you had. Send us an email with that feedback.

You can order your discounted copy of “Man, Freedom & Government” here.

If you would like to help us get more copies of this DVD out beyond your own ward and stake, please consider donating to The Ezra Taft Benson Society. You can donate here

Thanks for all you do for liberty.

Your team at,

The Ezra Taft Benson Society

Dear President/Bishop/Brother/Sister ___________________,

I would like to present to you this copy of “Man, Freedom and Government”. This is a shortened version of a talk Ezra Taft Benson gave at BYU, but with a visual presentation to go along with the talk.

It covers the principles of Doctrine and Covenants section 134 and how it applies to our public and personal, as well as religious lives, and has made a huge impact on me.

I hope that you will take the time to watch this important message; I know you will be glad you did.

Thank you for your service to our ward/stake in the work of the Lord.

Sincerely,

Ezra Taft Benson Society Action Alert!

The objective of the Ezra Taft Benson Society is to promote an understanding of our civic responsibilities, the principles of liberty, and good government – in light of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In helping more people understand the principles of liberty in that light, we have witnessed that people are much stronger in their convictions. That is because, as President Boyd K. Packer said in the General Conference of April 2004, “The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior.”

One of the best books (outside of the standard works) to help us in our study of the doctrine of liberty and good government is, “Many Are Called But Few Are Chosen”, by H. Verlan Andersen.

H. Verlan Andersen was the first General Authority called by President Benson after he became President of the Church, was a life long advocate of liberty, and always promoted it in light of the restored Gospel.

Ezra Taft Benson urged all members of the Church to read this important book in the General Conference of April 1972 when he said, “Fortunately we have materials to help us face these threatening dangers in the writings of President David O. McKay and other church leaders. Some other fine sources by LDS authors attempting to awaken and inform us of our duty are: Prophets, Principles, and National Survival (Jerreld L. Newquist), Many Are Called But Few Are Chosen (H. Verlan Andersen), and The Elders of Israel and the Constitution (Jerome Horowitz).”

In some “test markets” we had some individuals give copies of this important work to their ward and stake leadership with a cover letter giving an explanation of the book and why they thought it was important to bring to their attention. This had a major impact!  The feedback ranged from reports of changing of individual behavior in support of the principles of liberty to an increase of teaching of the topic of liberty in ward and stake meetings.  In all cases, the book was received with gratitude and an increase of understanding an appreciation for these principles.

We would like to encourage everyone to participate in this program.

To help accomplish this, we would like to offer the book to you at a 33% discount off of the cover price, making it only $5 per copy.  Additionally, we have included a sample cover letter that you can adapt and include with your book when you give it to your Elders Quorum president/High Priest group leader, your bishopric and your stake presidency, which means you will need a total of 9 copies, or 10 if you don’t already have one for yourself.

After you deliver your copies to your ward and stake leadership, we would love to hear back from you any experiences that you had. Send us an email with that feedback to feedback@etbsociety.org

You can order your discounted copy of “Many Are Called But Few Are Chosen” here http://www.latterdayconservative.com/store/all/latest-products/many-are-called-but-few-are-chosen/ Please be sure to note that you are ordering for this project.

If you would like to help us get more copies of this book out beyond your own ward and stake, please consider donating to The Ezra Taft Benson Society. You can donate here: https://ezrataftbensonsociety.org/donate/

Thanks for all you do for liberty.

The Gospel of Liberty

Posted by Brian M October 1st, 2010

One of the main objectives of the Ezra Taft Benson Society is to educate on the principles of Liberty from a Gospel Perspective. Did you know that multiple prophets and apostles have referred to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the Gospel of Liberty? It truly is.

Here are just a few quotes:

I think the time is not far distant when the light that shines from the lives of the faithful Latter-day Saints will draw many of the honest in heart into the straight and narrow path. This is the gospel of liberty, restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. (Elder German E. Ellsworth. CR April 1907.)

“The gospel that we have received is a gospel of liberty but not of license. There is nobody in bondage in this church. We are at perfect liberty to do that which we desire to do, so far as we have power. But we are not permitted, if we are saints of the living God, to go into corruption and wickedness and into the evils of this world. True, we have the power, but the Lord has given us commandments concerning these things, and He expects us to be a righteous people.” (Elder Charles W. Penrose  CR October 1904.)

“We are all searching for happiness; we hope for it, we think we live for it, it is our aim in this life. But do we live so as to enjoy the happiness we so much desire? There is only one way for Latter-day Saints to be happy, which is simply to live their religion, or in other words believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ in every part, obeying the gospel of liberty with full purpose of heart, which sets us free indeed.” (Brigham Young. 12:168. Discourses of Brigham Young.)

“Ever since the beginning of human existence on earth, the deposed son of the morning and his followers have been compassing the captivity of souls. The plan of salvation is the gospel of liberty. And now, in these the last days, immediately precedent to the return of Christ, who shall come to rule in righteousness on earth, the arch-fiend is making desperate effort to enthrall mankind under the autocracy of hell. The conflict under which the earth has been made to groan was a repetition of the premundane war, whereby the free agency of spirits was vindicated; and the eventual issue of the later struggle was equally assured.” ( Vitality of Mormonism. James E. Talmage)

“”Mormonism” is the Gospel of liberty, for it opens the door of freedom, and throws off the fetters of bondage. I bear my testimony to the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed by the Prophet Joseph Smith, and to the correctness of the organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; also to the revelations given through the prophets of God both ancient and modern. ” (Elder Ezra Taft Benson. Member of the Council of Twelve from July 16, 1846, to September 3, 1869. “Testimonies of the Divinity of the Church 1830 – 1930 (S. Bennion)”)

As we continue to build up the Ezra Taft Benson Society we will be creating new educational resources to help teach the principles of freedom and the gospel of liberty. For now check out the resources currently available from LatterdayConservative.com: here and here.

Constitution Day

Posted by Brian M September 17th, 2010

It’s Constitution Day.

Also, today is the official founding day of the Ezra Taft Benson Society 🙂

Read (or listen to) what Ezra Taft Benson said about the Constitution, that Heavenly Banner, and also pay attention to the FOUR things he said we must do “if we desire to be numbered among those who will… bear the Constitution away from the very verge of destruction”.
